The wave of localization in the automotive chip sector has achieved remarkable results. As of October 2025, the shipment volume of Horizon Robotics' Journey 6 chip has officially exceeded 1 million units, marking a critical breakthrough in China's high-computing-power automotive chip market. This chip, with a computing power of 560 TOPS, is specifically designed to support L2++ level advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and has been adopted by more than 15 mainstream domestic and foreign vehicle models, covering both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
Horizon's breakthrough reflects the accelerated pace of domestic substitution in the automotive chip industry. Traditionally dominated by international giants, the market for intelligent driving chips is now seeing Chinese companies gain ground. For instance, Coretek's X9 series cockpit chips have been integrated into over 20 vehicle models, breaking Qualcomm's monopoly with prices 10-20% lower than foreign competitors. However, challenges remain: the localization rate of high-end MCU chips is still less than 10%, and the reliance on imports for vehicle-grade SoC chips has not been fundamentally reversed, with U.S. export restrictions continuing to pose a major obstacle. Industry insiders predict that with sustained R&D investment, the domestic substitution rate for mid-to-high-end automotive chips is expected to exceed 30% by 2027.
